The Netflix app for iOS supports AirPlay, a proprietary protocol stack developed by Apple, which allows wireless streaming between devices of multimedia content. This means that you can stream Netflix movies and shows from your iOS devices to any AirPlay-enabled devices over local Wi-Fi. And because the app also supports offline downloads, you have everything you need to enjoy Netflix offline on your Mac. Well, almost everything. You also need an app like AirServer so you can receive AirPlay streams on your Mac.
Some Apple TV channels might have limits for how many titles can be downloaded simultaneously and the number of devices you can download content on. If you reach the limit, the Apple TV app alerts you. If you want to download more titles, delete TV episodes or movies that you already downloaded from one of your (or your family's) devices.
Can I Download Netflix Movies To Watch Offline On A Macbook Pro
You can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ content on your Mac, to do so you just need to log on to the website of each service. But downloading is forbidden (and if you see a service that seems to suggest it will allow you to do this then it may well be malware!)
UPDATE: On 15 November 2021 Amazon Prime Video launched a native macOS app on the Mac App Store that will allow Prime subscribers to stream and download Prime Video content on their Macs for offline viewing. To download movies and TV shows from Netflix, you'll need to install Windows 10 on an Intel-based MacBook and use the Windows version of the Netflix app. For Apple M1 MacBooks, there is no legal way to do this right now.
So, in short, Netflix spent a lot of time, effort, and money to block macOS users from legally downloading and accessing offline content from Netflix. It left users with morally ambiguous solutions or a Windows virtual machine if you have an Intel-based MacBook.
Unfortunately, there are no Netflix-approved methods to download movies and TV shows from Netflix with an M1 MacBook. There are, however, some morally ambiguous ways. Some folks have found success using online video downloaders, while others have made do with screen recording their iPhone or iPad using their MacBooks. Others still have turned to piracy.
When you know you're going to be away from Wi-Fi, you can download shows and movies in the Apple TV app to watch offline later. You can do this on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac. Simply open the app and select the movie or show you want to download. Tap the cloud-shaped download button. The icon will appear next to each individual episode of a show and will be next to a movie's title. When the download completes, you can find the content in the Library section of the app.
Although I'm perpetually adding movies and shows to my watchlists that I'll probably never watch, I like being able to know when a new season of a show is out. The Apple TV app can track shows you watch automatically under the Up Next section in Watch Now. It pulls the shows from across multiple streaming services, except for Netflix. For example, mine shows several titles I was watching on Hulu.
When new episodes become available, they'll jump to the front of the queue. Along the same lines, if you're not sure what to start watching, you can ask Siri "What should I watch?" for some suggestions. You can also ask to see popular movies or what shows are trending.
You probably don't want your kids watching everything you do on Apple TV, so the app has a way to make sure there's no content overlap. You can assign a PIN code to movies or shows with a specific rating so your kids can't access them. It only applies to iTunes content though, so that means shows and movies you've bought or rented through Apple. On the Apple TV, you can set a PIN code by going to Settings > General > Restrictions. Set the code and then you can decide what counts as Allowed Content.
You can watch quite a few Netflix movies and shows while on the go, thanks to the platform's offline-viewing feature. If you're paying for one of Netflix's streaming plans (the new Basic with Ads plan excepted), downloading content to watch at another time is a pretty straightforward process that takes all the pain out of worrying about when you'll be able to connect to Wi-Fi again.
