In the heartwarming tale of a boy from Mumbai and a girl from New York, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a story of unconditional love. The story starts with Prem Ratan Pandey (Salman Khan) & Seema Pandey (Sonam Kapoor) who are some how connected with each other. Hero Prem is a billionaire living in Mumbai while heroine Seema is a business woman living in NYC. Prem’s business declined after the death of his father, whereas Seema’s business is flourishing. Prem doesn’t know that Seema is the cause of his setback. Prem thinks that she is his soulmate and one day he will marry her. On the other side Seema thinks that there are no chances for them to ever meet each other, so she decides to return to India with her mother. After informing her mother about the decision, Seema realises that it was mistake not to meet Prem before leaving India. Therefore, she returns to India via Nepal border with help of an unknown person named Chhotee (Armaan Kohli). Seema reaches India and meets Prem’s aunt (Kirron Kher) who helps her to reach Mumbai. Meanwhile, Chhotee is revealed to be Prem's twin brother on his way to America. Chhotee meets Prem’s mother (Amisha Patel), who is an alcoholic. She reveals that she has run away from home with her love of life Prem. Chhotee also informs Prem on the same, but Prem does not care about this at all. Seema gets confused with the fact that both are twins and thinks that they are brothers. Later it’s revealed that these two are cousins, but not blood-related brothers. Prem’s father (Darshan Kumar) got married with Prem’s mother who was Seema’s mother Karuna’s sister. As Karuna left her family, Prem’s parents took care of Prem and Chhotee. Prem is now in love with Seema without even knowing her. He hates her because he feels that she is the cause of his downfall. On the other hand, Seema still loves Prem and wants to win his love back.
