It's one of the most well-acted movies I've seen in quite some time. The intensity is palpable, and it's interesting to watch three very different people all connected by this one unexpected thing that happens. Oh, and the scenery. Grisham gives us plausible characters who are all looking for something very different out of their lives, yet who are also human enough to have flaws that are visible to the audience as well as the other characters in the film. De Niro is taut, distant, and devoid of humor - just the type of character he usually plays - yet he does so without being too extreme or off-putting to his audience.
